If you’ve ever read a self-help book, listened to a life coach, or been on social media you’ve probably heard about affirmations. But you may not have heard the whole truth about them.
What's an affirmation? It's a positive statement that you read/speak/write to affirm and assert as true. It’s possible that you’ve have heard affirmations such as these: I feel really DONE with how our society (or more accurately, our media) is pushing, pushing, pushing us to buy more/spend money. Get a new car every 2 years. Upgrade your phone (again). Do a daily drive-through to get your $9 coffee in a one-time-use-plastic cup (don’t get me started on how much trash & waste we’re creating). Buy what the social media influencers are wearing, eating, using, pushing…
I’ve always loved being outside in nature. Digging in the dirt or sitting in the cool grass of my grandmother’s back yard. Spending time on the beach with my toes in the sand, sifting the tiny rocks of sand between my fingers. Walking through the woods and feeling the soft, comfy pine needles under my feet. Hearing the crunchy sound of leaves while walking in the fall. Swinging on the highest swing sets I could find– ones that now are deemed “unsafe.” Feeling the power and force of the air as it blew my hair forward and back making messy tangles.
As an adult, I’ve been most happy with careers that allowed me to work outside in my backyard. My favorite spot is my covered, wooden swing which is nestled between two oak trees, resting on a cement brick patio, and surrounded on all sides by flowers and shrubs. Today I was thinking about how I think I'm ready to be DONE with dieting and trying to figure out what I should/should not eat in order to lose weight.
In my adult life, I've seen many, MANY theories come and go about the BEST way to burn fat, etc. But I've been around long enough to know that "sworn by" opinions/facts often get overturned a few years later. People as a whole are doing the yo-yo diet dance and I did it HARD from 2021-2022. Yes, I lost 60 pounds, but then I slowly gained it back (with some extra)! This is a growing collection of positive statements I've made into graphics to be visual reminders to relax, lighten up, be kind to yourself, and stay encouraged. I'll keep adding to this periodically, and it's my sincere wish that this brings some cheer to your day.
All right let’s face it, whether you realize it or not, you’re a bit of a self-help junkie. You’ve read every self-development book. You’ve gone to every event and watched every webinar. And what happened?
Or rather — what didn’t happen? Affirmations are better when they are personal to YOU and your own thoughts and desires, but sometimes it's helpful to have some general affirmations to get you started. These are very simple ones, and I'll be adding new affirmation graphics periodically. Enjoy!
On Gaia TV last night, Regina Edwards was interviewing Mitch Horowitcz. It was an interview from 2020, but still very relevant. Mitch said that we don't realize the power we actually have. And I agree. I fully believe I have phenomenal power, as we all do. So, what will I DO with this knowledge?
